A little known fact:
There are approximately 100,000 words in the Spanish language.
However:
To be perceived as pretty much fluent in conversational Spanish you need an active vocabulary of approximately 2,500 high-frequency words.
Those 2,500 words will enable you to comprehend more than 95% of all conversation.
And those 2,500 words can be learnt (with proper study and support) and spoken correctly in a few months.
Let’s say 6 months for most people.
What about if you want a 98% comprehension level of conversational Spanish?
Well, if that’s the case, you’ll need to study the Spanish language for about another 5 years.
That means:
1) 2,500 words out of a total of 100,000 (just 2.5%) would provide you with 95% of the results you require.
2) But to gain just 3% more in results takes 10 TIMES the effort (6 months learning versus 5 years learning)
