How To Regain Control Of Your Time And Increase Your Productivity

In a fast-paced world like what exists today, every minute can seem packed with endless tasks and commitments, and finding the time to pursue one’s dreams can feel like an impossible challenge. You could be embarking on a new project or striving towards a lifelong aspiration, but it’ll still often seem as though there just isn’t enough time in the day. This feeling of constant busyness isn’t unique; it’s a phenomenon recognized by many and is adequately explained by Parkinson’s Law, which states that work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion. Understanding this law will prove paramount for learning how to regain control of your time and increase your productivity.

But why do some people manage to accomplish so much more within the same 24 hours than others? What sets them apart? The answer lies in their relationship with time and their ability to prioritize and organize tasks effectively. Today’s exploration will delve into this intricate relationship with time, and more importantly, explore how to align the unconscious mind to become a powerful ally in one’s quest to achieve their dreams.

The Busy Person’s Secret

There’s a peculiar old saying that goes, “if you want something done, give it to a busy person.” Whilst counterintuitive at an initial glance, it’s easy to notice that busy people often have a superior grasp of time management. They possess an internal sense of prioritization and organization, one which allows them to get a larger number of tasks done much more efficiently than others. A key part of this is understanding that the real challenge is not the lack of time, but rather, one’s relationship with time.

Put into better perspective, everyone has the same number of hours in a day, but the way people relate to and manage these hours varies significantly. A majority of the time, the unconscious mind dictates what gets prioritized based on what it deems important–which is reasonable enough, but unfortunately, this can lead to scenarios where one’s dreams and aspirations remain are left behind or unaccounted for, because they aren’t recognized as immediate priorities by the unconscious mind.

Engaging Your Unconscious Mind

The unconscious mind is a powerful entity that controls much of a person’s behavior, often without them even realizing it. If one were to harness its power, then they’d have to establish a clean dialogue with their unconscious mind and realign its priorities with their conscious goals.

One can attempt the following thought experiment: imagine a scenario where you and your unconscious mind are sitting together in a comfortable, serene environment. This could be a cozy cottage by a fireplace, a peaceful beach, a tranquil forest, or any place where you feel at ease and open to deep, meaningful conversations. This setting would allow you to have a friendly yet profound conversation with your unconscious mind about your dreams and aspirations.

Identifying Time Wasters

The first step in this conversation is to analyze how your time is currently being spent. Ask your unconscious mind to sort through your daily activities and categorize them into four simple baskets:

  • Urgent but Not Important: Tasks that are time-sensitive but do not significantly impact your overall goals.
  • Important but Not Urgent: Tasks that are crucial for your long-term success but often get postponed.
  • Neither Urgent Nor Important: Activities that do not contribute to your goals and can be seen as time-wasters.
  • Both Urgent and Important: High-priority tasks that require immediate attention and significantly impact your success.

By identifying where your time is going, your unconscious mind can help filter out activities that are neither urgent nor important. This process of elimination frees up precious time that can be redirected towards tasks that align with your dreams–a crucial step with regards to how to regain your control of your time and increase your productivity.

Prioritizing Your Dreams

Once you have identified and filtered out time-wasting activities, the next step is to prioritize your dreams. Your unconscious mind needs to see the value and importance of these dreams, just as you do. To achieve this, break down your dreams into small, manageable steps that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine.

These baby steps might include setting aside a specific time each day to work on your project, creating a vision board, or writing a detailed plan. The key is to make these steps actionable and consistent. This way, they become ingrained into your routine.

Testing And Adjusting Your Priorities: Regain Control Of Your Time

Encourage your unconscious mind to integrate these new priorities into a typical day and see how they fit within the context of your life. This integration process involves continuous review and adjustment to ensure that your new habits align with your overall life goals. As you gain new experiences and insights, your unconscious mind can make necessary adjustments to keep you on track.

As you establish a more harmonious relationship with your unconscious mind, you’ll notice a significant change in how you perceive and manage time–one that will greatly aid you with regards to how to regain control of your time and increase your productivity. This newfound alignment will allow you to approach tasks with a sense of purpose and urgency, one that energizes you instead of depleting you.

By continually refining your relationship with time, you’ll create a sense of space and possibility that wasn’t there before. Your unconscious mind becomes an ally, ensuring that your behaviors and priorities are in sync with your dreams, leading to a more fulfilling and productive life.

Conclusion

Time management is not just about squeezing more tasks into your day; it’s about changing your relationship with time and aligning your unconscious mind with your conscious goals. By engaging in a thoughtful conversation with your unconscious mind, identifying time-wasting activities, and prioritizing your dreams, you can better unlock your full potential and make the best use out of your time.
